Term:  washing

Description:

Washing is a painting technique where watered down paint or ink is applied such that it collects in hollows and indentations. Excess can be removed with a dried brush which draws the liquid back up into the bristles. With practice a brush can be used to control the flow of the liquid.
Washing techniques are often used in conjunction with drybrushing.
