RTV is an abbreviation of "Room Temperature Vulcanizing".
Vulcanization refers to a specific curing process of rubber. It is a chemical process and usually involves high heat however, as the name suggests, RTV products will cure at room temperature making it suitable for use by hobbyists. In the field of terrain making it is most commonly used for the creation of moulds from which plaster or resin items can be cast.
